Now’s the time of year when clever, clever artists begin contemplating demise, endings, finales, genius-murder—especially their own. Joining us from far, far away, mystery game master S. Khajeh-Najafi brings his unique credo of capacious curiosity to bear on the subject of artistic ego and its untimely death. Together with his consonant-crunched colleague, P. Kr, Khajeh-Najafi collects a cabinet of references ranging from philosopher’s ends, forensic photography, apocryphal lives of artists, and other eclectic sources into a multimedia extravaganza. This event kicks off a 48-hour frenzy of collective production, culminating on ‘Totensonntag’ (Sunday of the Dead) with a finissage and book launch to celebrate creativity and its ultimate constraint.
S. Khajeh-Najafi has been pestering Sina Najafi since 1965. He is the editor-in-chief of the Brooklyn-based magazine Cabinet, which in 2004 collaborated with Kabinet magazine, St. Petersburg, on an issue dedicated to the theme of “Doubles.”
